WOZ/DUCH
God, as we know, is Spirit. And air is almost spirit too (in Russian "spirit" is DUCH and "air" is WOZDUCH). Just like God, air is invisible. But a person can
feel its absence immediately. Perhaps when Khrushchev said that Gagarin had flown into space and had not seen God, he wasn’t being disingenuous? Space is an airless, soulless void. Where there is no air, there is no life. And God is life. That is perhaps why Christ said: ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.’ There is no need to seek it far away in the heavens. Where it was born, there it is needed. And it is certainly no coincidence that the cloth covering the Holy Gifts during the Divine Liturgy is called ‘Air’.
The works symbolically convey the movements of air or the Spirit. The moving airy clouds are created from
fragments of perfect circles or halos. In other words, they represent certain clusters of holiness.
